Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM), a nonprofit law firm that provides civil legal assistance to low income residents, is seeking a part-time Legal Assistant for its Jackson office. LSSCM is a division of the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) that has offices in Detroit, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Monroe, and Ypsilanti. The Jackson office of LSSCM provides civil legal assistance to low income residents and older adults in Jackson and Hillsdale Counties. Primary responsibilities of the legal assistant include interviewing clients, reception, client database management, general clerical work, and administrative support of the legal work of the office. Qualified candidates are effective communicators who possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products. This position requires a highly skilled, patient, motivated person who desires to play an essential role in providing legal services to underrepresented residents. We anticipate the ideal candidate would be available to work between 15-24 hours per week. This is a contract position for one year with a potential for an extension of time depending upon funding.
