POSITION: Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) and Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services (MSAS) is seeking a full-time bilingual (Spanish/English) receptionist and administrative assistant to provide reception and administrative support for our office in downtown Ypsilanti. This role is fully on-site at our Ypsilanti office. The person filling this position will:
- greet and handle inquiries from our clients and the general public, both in-person and on the phone
- engage in general clerical tasks (copying, filing, maintaining and ordering supplies)
- provide interpretation/translation assistance, when needed to support existing bilingual staff and law clerks
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: MAP is a non-profit law firm providing free legal services to very low-income families and individuals in 13 counties in south central Michigan; MSAS is a fully owned LLC of MAP providing legal services and support to clients and other legal aid programs. Central Administration, an office of MAP, handles the administrative functions for the 6 statewide and 6 local direct service offices in the state of Michigan. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess strong communication and organizational skills, including fluency in Spanish and English, have familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google applications, and commit to maintaining confidentiality of client information. Because of the populations we serve, and because the receptionist will be the public face of our organization, the ideal applicant will exhibit patience, empathy, sensitivity, and a commitment to serving low-income and vulnerable people.
BENEFITS: Starting salary is from $40,000 depending on experience. MAP offers a generous benefits package including life, short and long term disability, health, vision, dental and flexible spending accounts. If an applicant does not require health benefits, they have the option to take an annual $1,500 payout in addition to the base salary paid over the course of the year. MAP also has a generous leave policy allowing staff to accrue 3 weeks paid vacation the first year and 15 paid holidays, as well as a 401K retirement plan including employer match for eligible staff after 6 months of employment. MAP is a qualifying employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
