Michigan Advocacy Program - Senior Financial Manager - Ypsilanti

POSITION: Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) and Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services (MSAS) is seeking applicants for a Senior Financial Manager in our Central Administrative office in Ypsilanti.  This position will focus on the statewide programs of MSAS: Michigan Poverty Law Program, Michigan Legal Help, Michigan Immigration Center, Michigan Elder Justice Initiative and Crime Victims Legal Assistance Program.  This position reports to the MAP CFO. MAP and MSAS currently work a hybrid schedule.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: MAP is a non-profit law firm providing free legal services to very low-income families and individuals in 13 counties in south central Michigan; MSAS is a fully owned LLC of MAP providing legal services and support to clients and other legal aid programs. Central Administration, an office of MAP, handles the administrative functions for the 6 statewide and 6 local direct service offices in the state of Michigan. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Financial Manager will manage the financial systems and the significant  budget for the Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services (MSAS). This includes over 40 funding sources. The position requires supervision of least two people to assist in delivering high quality financial services to MSAS management and board. Responsibilities include working with HR, Payroll and other Central Administrative staff to ensure that MSAS grants and financial statements are issued timely and accurately; communicating and working with the MSAS Executive Director, MSAS board and MAP CFO on the status of MSAS’ financial position; and working closely with the 5 MSAS Program Directors, to report the financial status of office grants and finances, building budgets for the future, and communicating projections. The Senior Financial Manager will be expected to meet reporting deadlines throughout the year, including 4 board meetings and the annual financial audit. They will participate in other Central Administration responsibilities, including procurement, insurance, audits, payables, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have experience managing a large financial system, including managing budget, issuing statements and managing grants. They should have strong communication skills. They must be skilled in the use of Microsoft programs (namely Excel), and be comfortable using technology in general. Applicants must possess excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of GAAP, attention to detail, great time management skills, and an ability to prioritize work for themselves and their reports is important. They should have at least a bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience. Applicants should have accounting software experience; Sage a plus, but not required.  

BENEFITS:  Starting salary is from $95,000 depending on experience. MAP offers a generous benefits package including life, short and long term disability, health, vision, dental and flexible spending accounts. If an applicant does not require health benefits, they have the option to take an annual $1,500 payout in addition to the base salary paid over the course of the year.  MAP also has a generous leave policy allowing staff to accrue 3 weeks paid vacation the first year and 15 paid holidays, as well as a 401K retirement plan including employer match for eligible staff after 6 months of employment.  MAP is a qualifying employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
