POSITION: Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) is seeking an Eviction Prevention Project Coordinator to assist with the launch of our Eviction Prevention Project (EPP) in Washtenaw County. This position is part of a new grant-funded project to assist County residents facing eviction. The EPP Coordinator will play a key role in launching this new project. The Coordinator will work closely with our attorneys to: assist with outreach to tenants; interview and screen potential clients; provide resource and referral information to the public; communicate with court staff, community partners, and volunteers; support the legal work of the project; track data for evaluation and grant reporting; and provide administrative support. The EPP Coordinator will work remotely from home, and, once it is safe to do so, at the Washtenaw County district court courthouses and our office in downtown Ypsilanti.
OUR ORGANIZATION: LSSCM has been working with low-income individuals and families in Washtenaw County for over 50 years. LSSCM’s goal is to provide high quality free civil legal assistance to our most vulnerable populations, with an emphasis on homelessness prevention, support to survivors of abuse, and assistance in accessing health care, food, and needs-based income programs. We are the Legal Services Corporation and state-funded civil legal aid provider in southern and central Michigan, covering 13 counties including Washtenaw County. QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will be comfortable with and skilled at communicating with people from a wide range of backgrounds. Some college is preferred, and we will also consider equivalent professional and/or life experience. Candidate must be detail-oriented with strong organizational, time-management, and computer skills. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to serving low-income and underserved communities, and who display the patience, empathy, and sensitivity necessary for this work. Prior legal experience and Spanish language skills are a plus, but not required.
BENEFITS: This is a full-time position with a salary starting at $34,000 depending on experience and includes excellent health, disability, and fringe benefits. This is a one-year contract position with the possibility of renewal for a second year.
